Some background on the poems: I lived in East Jerusalem for 2.5 years during my MA in Middle Eastern Studies (Palestinian Poetry). I have been to Gaza once, in 1998, and have recently been reading the work of Gazzawi poet Soumaya El-Sousi (some of which can be found here). In my work, I am interested in supporting Palestinian sovereignty activism, and in presenting Gaza as a real place rather than a name on the news or a source of conflict. I have worked on translating Arabic literature into English, mostly Palestinian poetry.
